Archives Alert! Hamilton Academy of Medicine Fonds

McMaster University’s Health Sciences Archives is pleased to announce that the Hamilton Academy of Medicine fonds is now available, thanks to the generosity of McMaster University’s Strategic Alignment Funds.
The Hamilton Academy of Medicine (HAM), a branch of the Ontario Medical Association, was founded in 1899 as a local voluntary professional association that fostered collaboration within the medical community while addressing the educational, social, and political needs of its members. The HAM archive spans from 1899 to 2004 and includes materials documenting the organization’s activities, from administrative records to scientific papers and medical advocacy efforts. Additionally, a selection of at-risk media capturing HAM’s social events and professional development initiatives has been digitized.
Health Sciences Archivist Melissa Caza shared:
Archives“The HAM archive is an exciting opportunity to expand our internally focused mandate and establish McMaster as the primary research center for the history of healthcare in Hamilton and its impact on national and international healthcare systems. Several items in the HAM archive align with the Health Sciences Library Archives’ commitment to uncovering the gender and social justice achievements embedded in the history of Hamilton’s healthcare community.”
