You may be familiar with our Guides and Tutorials, but did you know that they are divided into three colour-coded categories? There's Tutorials in blue, Topic Guides in yellow, and Program Guides in green.
It's important to note that on the Guides & Tutorials page you also have the ability to filter by subjects. Subjects include, but are not limited to, Anatomy; Citation Management; Grey Literature; Midwifery; Public Health; Systematic Reviews; and more. By using the filter function to specify whether you want a tutorial, topic guide, or program guide, and then further filtering by subject, you can ensure that you will find exactly what you need.
Below you'll find explanations for each of the three categories and instructions on how to optimize your use.
Tutorials
Learning how to properly use and optimize different research databases can be challenging. Our tutorials are here to help you learn how to use the various databases, giving you the tools you need to find the information you're looking for. On our Guides & Tutorials page, anything with a blue tag that says "Tutorial" will lead you to a page that either has a video tutorial on how to use a specific database AND/OR a page which has links to separate tutorials explaining how to use the database.
For example, if you want to learn how to use Ovid Medline, one of our most popular resources, you can click the Ovid Medline icon on our Guides & Tutorials page and you'll be brought to a new page which has two separate tutorial videos from our YouTube channel. These videos will teach you how to start and refine your search using Ovid. Additionally, both of these videos have PDF video transcriptions, making them accessible to everyone.
Topic Guides
Our Guides & Tutorials page houses a vast array of topic guides. These are usually general pages that contain links and information about a certain subject. For example, the Anatomy Topic Guide has links to resources like Visible Body Human Anatomy Atlas, the Guyton and Hall Textbook of Medical Physiology, Video and Learning Modules, and eBook packages like AccessMedicine. In short, our topic guides are the perfect way to find a variety of resources in a certain subject.
If you're having trouble finding which topic guide you should use, you can use the subject filter which will sort exactly which topic guide will help you the best.
Program Guide
Much like our topic guides, program guides are tailored to provide information and resources for specific programs in health sciences. Our program guides range from Family Medicine; Health Management; Medical Sciences; Occupational Therapy; and more. You can also use the filter option to sort out which program guide has the information that you need. Within a program guide page, you can find a list of key health databases and indexes, clinical tools, additional resources, and/or citation style guides. Not every program guide is the same, but each is sure to provide the information you need to get started.
