Research Support

Research Support Services is intended for McMaster Health Sciences researchers and research assistants.  These services can be tailored to meet your needs. For students seeking research assistance associated with course work, education programs, research projects or thesis work, please contact your liaison librarian.

Faculty Orientation Sessions

Training & Orientation

  • Personalized orientation to the library, the services and resources
  • Customized training sessions for your research group on our health databases including, OVID Medline, Embase; Ebsco CINAHL, and Cochrane Library; alternatively, you can teach yourself using our online tutorials.
  • Sessions on using RefWorks, a web-based bibliographic management software; alternatively teach yourself using the online tutorial.

Research Consultation

  • Recommend information resources to support your research needs
  • Assist in developing your search strategies (fee may apply)
  • Demonstrate how to create Auto Alerts (automatic updates) and table of contents alerts for your research projects
  • Discuss potential sources of grey literature
  • Provide suggestions on publishing in Open Access journals or submitting a manuscript to MacSphere (McMaster University's Institutional Repository) to meet CIHR funding requirements
  • Support your use of RefWorks

  • Access our online resources and databases using MacID. You must be affiliated with McMaster University to obtain a MacID account.
