Interlibrary Loan (Borrowing from non-McMaster libraries)

The Health Sciences Library Interlibrary Loan Service will obtain materials not currently available in our collection.

Articles:

  • $3 per article for McMaster students, faculty and staff
  • Normally delivered in  2-7 days
  • $35 per article for RUSH requests (24 hours)*

Books:

  • No cost
  • Normally delivered within 2 weeks
  • Loan period is no more than 3 weeks
  • No renewals

How do I request a book or article?

Requests for articles, books and other documents not held in the McMaster Libraries’ collections should be submitted via RACER.

How do I use RACER?

Notification and Pick-up

  • You will be notified via e-mail when your material arrives
  • Items may be picked up at the circulation desk during regular Health Sciences Library hours

Individuals Unaffiliated with McMaster

  • Individuals unaffiliated with McMaster University must place requests in person in the library
  • Unaffilated users will be charged $15 per item plus any charges levied by the lending library
  • An imprint of a valid credit card must be provided before items will be ordered

*RUSH service

If you require RUSH (24 hour) service please place your request in RACER and then telephone us at: 905.525.9140  x22546. Before you make this phone call, make sure that you have the order number assigned by RACER on hand.  The charge for RUSH service is $35 per article. Please submit all RUSH requests before noon.
