How to Use the Collections
These guidelines are determined by the Archive's mandate to protect the confidentiality and long term preservation of archival materials.
Material in the Rare Book room and the Archives will be accessible to any bona-fide researcher, unless specific restrictions are placed on the archival material by the originating department, office or individual donor. Prior approval may be necessary.
Faculty, staff or student identification or the equivalent must be presented when requesting materials.
All material will be itemized when given to the researcher and will be checked when it is returned.
Materials must be used within the archival area and researchers will be supervised.
Laptop computers or pencil must be used for making notes. No pens or markers. Laptops are available for loan at the circulation desk.
Photocopying may be permissible in some cases at the discretion of the Archivist.
Borrowing of materials is not permitted except under special circumstances.
Copyright depending upon the originating body, will belong to either Hamilton Health Sciences or the Faculty of Health Sciences. Quoting in publications directly from archival documents requires permission and requests should be referred to the Archivist.
Representatives of the media will be directed to the Public Relations offices of either Hamilton Health Sciences or the Faculty of Health Sciences, as appropriate.
